John Parry in a bit of a hole ...

Rebecca Chambers provides this rather strange shot of John Parry, half buried in a hole by the fence during the 1981 season. Beside John, the extent of the soil sampling and scrunging activities supervised by Frank Green who was, inevitably, always know as 'Frank the Soil', may be gauged by the volume of sample bags. Behind John a long and continuous cutting stretching from about A6 or B6 to L7-ish

In the shade of the tree on the rampart ...

Elsa Charlot and Kathy Scott stay quietly away from the usual melee round the huts during a tea-break on one of the cooler days in 1979.  This also shows the southeast corner of Ros Cleal's Cutting A6 at a somewhat unexciting stage.
