Steve Vaughan's cutting in 1981

Posted by Picasa
Mystifying patterns and holes in the limestone in this 1981 Phillpotts archive view of Steve Vaughan's cutting. Did someone just keep on digging to create the pit behind Maryam Ghaffari or does it just need a good brushing? Also, amongst others, Mike Adams and Bruce.

The Franco-Iranian representatives: 1980

Posted by Picasa
Maryam Ghaffari and Elsa Charlot came to Crickley Hill for at least three seasons between 1979 and 1981 and various friends of theirs accompanied them: the main photograph in this collage shows Maryam and Marine with their post holes.  The other shots show Maryam with Clive Anderson in the background, Maryam and Elsa together, with Maryam resting on her friend Arnelle, and Elsa relaxing in Cheltenham and during a tea break.  All these shots come from Dr Phillpotts's 1980 collection.  In the shot of Maryam and Elsa together in the background can be detected Steve Vaughan, Joanne Milroy, Mike Adams and Dan Johnson.

Guess what was going on here ...

Can anyone help with what Dr Phillpotts is about here: rapt attention all round? I only know because of the caption that accompanied his archive when he sent it to me. This is during a 1982 party... L to R: Alex West, Mike Adams, Duncan, Gail Boyle, Dave, Ambrosio, Rhian Locke, Franklin, John Gale, Jane the Scot and the Chronicler himself presiding. Update: Steve Vaughan writes: "It's the wedding. Rhian is being joined in unholy matrimony with the hapless youth on her right by the hanging judge himself. John Gale acting as best man, I think. 1982?." Correct on all counts Steve, and amusingly different from your beloved's answer which was as follows: I think Phillpotts may have been presiding over the annual Awards - certainly Ambrosio was voted 'Personality of the Year' one season, and I think I have a hazy memory of this party. Was John Gale ever 'Mr Crickley' - I don't remember. In fact the biggest surprise of this picture is I don't ever recall Mr Gale being that darned handsome in a Village People meets Errol Flynn sort of way. On Mr Crickley - for some reason we still have one of the limestone Mr Crickley plaques in our hallway. Last time we moved - the removal man picked it up and said "Who's Mr Crickley then .... a dog?"

At last: a Definitive History of the Below Average White Band

Dr Phillpotts performed manfully (should that be tunefully or rhythmically?) in all bar one of the manifestations of the United Kingdom's most cacophonous and curiously talented band. He also lovingly recorded the identities of his fellow band members and the instruments they "played". This historical chart was originally created by Dr Phillpotts, with no little difficulty, in Word: I've reworked it in Powerpoint in order to get the whole history onto a single frightening page. It is perhaps too ambitious to write a commentary on all known performances of the band in a single post, so having published tonight the BAWB's DNA, I call upon other fellow band members to assist me in recalling its more memorable moments. Click on the image to get a larger and more legible version ...

The definitive list of instruments is: piano, kettle, hosepipe, guitar, percussion, clarinet, bottles, spoons, toys, dustbin lids, various parts of Mr Bernard Dawson too numerous to list separately, kazoo, recorder, harmonica, teapot, jug, cider jars, voice, short and long scaffold pipes, water tubs, furniture van, plumbing pipes, tin bowl, plastic bowl, kitchen scales, cups and anglepoise lamps.
