The 1980 tea break barrow-circle

Posted by Picasa
Nattering as ever at the tea break and snapped by Jane Dineen, L to R: Dave Southwood, Bernie Dawson, Arwel Barrett, Julian Parker, Terry Courtney, Phil Dixon, Paul Noakes and, sitting on the threshold of the finds hut, John Parry.  The finds hut has been carefully decorated under the eaves, with a notice not all of which is legible.  I can see "Sanctuary Great Wh[ale]" and "Ave Rosamunda" so presumably the inscription has something to do with one of Dr Cleal's many admirers. There is a avian outline in the middle and the only other word I can make out is "salut[amus]" - presumably there is an echo of "Ave Caesar, morituri te salutamus"...
