The fabled Neolithic Causeway ...

Posted by Picasa
I was so delighted to receive this photograph from Andrew Powell the other day: it shows a real Neolithic causeway, with its ditches either side.  Consultation with Professor Dixon tells me that this was Cutting K1 and L1 in 1974 (but which was also excavated in 1975).  My delight stemmed from the fact that, whilst I personally dug at Crickley between 1976 and 1983, and dug one or two Neolithic areas, most of my work happened to be in the Iron Age parts of the site and I've never seen, odd as it may seem, a photograph of the Neolithic ditches or indeed a causeway of the eponymous enclosures.  But now I have: and I'm very happy.  Aren't I easily pleased?
